A teenage youth was found dead only a few days after being falsely blamed of taking the ashes of a dead infant during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Heartbreaking Discovery

Kai Lloyd's mother and father discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The investigation learned how his mother got a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if her son was her offspring. The message stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement presented to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's remains had been taken in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Investigation

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said items was never stolen in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed stolen remains generated social media comments, and although Kai was not identified in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were extremely upsetting", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Effect

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His parent said Kai "became isolated" after the arrest and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her son told her he had gone into the house because the woman who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but denied removing anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her son was being bullied online after the accusations.

The inquest heard that a young adult urged the teenager to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Reaction

The hearing received testimony from educational staff at Connah's Quay High School.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang the family's parents' telephone and left a voicemail saying she had spoken to Kai about the allegations.

The court heard his family said they never receive that communication.

Formal Finding

Lead investigator told the inquest he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with ADHD, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a descriptive finding, he stated: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.

"Likely falsehoods were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was released whilst investigations proceeded."

The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or omissions of any organization led to or added to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to discern his intent."
