Four Detentions Carried Out in Connection to Louvre Precious Gems Robbery

A further quartet of persons are now under arrest within the framework of the ongoing investigation into the last month's heist of valuable gems at the famous Paris museum, per reports from the Paris prosecutor's office.

Particulars of the Latest Apprehensions

Two men, in their late thirties, and a duo of females, 31 and 40 years of age, were taken into custody this Tuesday. All are from the Île-de-France region.

One of those detained is believed to be the final member of a four-man gang that allegedly carried out the daytime theft, according to media sources in France. The additional three suspected thieves are already in custody and formally accused, authorities state.

Police now have as much as 96 hours to question them. Zero evidence has to date been discovered of the pilfered gems - appraised at eighty-eight million euros - which were taken on 19 October.

Previous Indictments and Rejections

A group of four have already been charged over the heist - three male and one female suspects, who similarly reside within the Paris region.

A 38-year-old woman was charged earlier this month with involvement in organized robbery and criminal conspiracy intended to carry out unlawful acts.

Additionally, a man, aged 37, was charged with stealing and conspiratorial activities.

The pair of accused, who have not been named publicly, have disavowed any participation.

The Way the Theft Was Executed

The robbery occurred when the team of four individuals employed a hijacked vehicle with a mounted lift to enter the Apollo Gallery via a balcony adjacent to the Seine.

The perpetrators employed a circular saw to force open exhibition cases containing the jewelry.

The robbers remained within for just 240 seconds and made their escape on two motor scooters stationed outside at 09:38, before transferring to automobiles.

One of the stolen items - a royal crown - was lost during the getaway but eight more objects of jewelry - such as a necklace with emeralds and diamonds that was gifted by Napoleon I his empress, the Empress Marie-Louise - were stolen.

Safeguarding Shortcomings and Aftermath

It has been stated that the robbery was executed by small-time offenders rather than organised crime professionals.

Soon following the robbery, it was revealed by the Louvre's director that the only camera observing the Galerie d'Apollon was facing opposite the balcony the thieves climbed over to break in.

The president of the Louvre has subsequently acknowledged that the establishment had not fulfilled in its obligations, but disputed allegations of security being ignored - emphasizing that from the time she took office in 2021 she had been consistently alerting of the requirement for additional resources.

Strengthened Protective Steps

Following the event, protective protocols have been tightened around France's cultural institutions.

Officials have relocated some of its most precious jewels to the national bank in the aftermath of the robbery.
