The Israeli Cabinet Ratifies Deal for Captives' Liberation as US Forces to 'Supervise' Truce

Israel's administration has officially approved a comprehensive ceasefire agreement that includes the return of all remaining hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, marking a major step toward terminating the destructive two-year war.

US Military Role in Monitoring the Truce

High-ranking authorities in the White House have confirmed that a US defense contingent of about 200 members will be dispatched to the region to "monitor" the truce after both Israel and the militant organization consented to the initial stage of the former President Trump administration's conflict resolution proposal.

His role will be to supervise, witness, make sure there are no violations.

Prompt Execution Timeframe

As per an Israel's spokesperson, the truce should begin without delay following government approval. The Israeli military was provided 24 hours to retreat its forces to an agreed-upon position. Following that, the hostages held in Gaza would be freed within 72 hours, a administration official declared.

Major Developments

  • Hamas' exiled Gaza Strip leader Khalil Al-Hayya stated he had obtained promises from the United States and other intermediaries that the war was concluded.
  • The commander of the American military's Central Command, General a senior US military official, would initially have 200 people on the location, a senior US representative confirmed.
  • From Egypt, from Qatar, Turkish and possibly from the UAE armed forces officials would be embedded in the contingent, the US official noted. A another representative emphasized that "American military personnel are planned to go into Gaza".
  • Israeli airstrikes carried on in the time leading up to the Israeli government's vote. Explosions were observed on the previous day in northern Gaza, and a strike on a structure in the Gaza capital killed at least two persons and resulted in more than 40 trapped under debris, according to Palestinian emergency services.
  • At least 11 dead Palestinians and another 49 who were wounded were admitted at medical facilities over the past 24 hours, Gaza's Hamas-administered health ministry stated.
  • Israel was hitting locations that constituted a risk to its troops as they relocate, said an Israel's armed forces authority who spoke on condition of anonymity. The militant group blasted Israel over the attack, claiming that the Israeli Prime Minister was trying to "shuffle the situation and disrupt" efforts by intermediaries to conclude the hostilities.
  • 20 Israel's captives are still considered to be alive in Gaza, while 26 are presumed deceased, and the whereabouts of 2 is unknown.
  • Former President Trump leadership wider 20-point truce initiative includes many unresolved issues, such as if and how the militant organization will lay down arms. But both factions appeared nearer than they have been in months to terminating the war, which was triggered by the militant group's October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, in which about 1,200 people were murdered and 251 abducted, triggering an Israeli retaliation that has resulted in more than 67,000 Palestinians killed and nearly 170,000 injured, based on Gaza's health ministry.
  • The IDF confirmed an Israeli soldier, a 26-year-old reservist soldier, was killed in a militant marksman incident in the Gaza capital on the previous day late in the day. This took place after Israeli and Hamas negotiators signed a deal in Cairo to guarantee the release of the detainees, but the halt in fighting aspect of the arrangement had not yet taken place.
  • Israel's media source Haaretz has made public the identities of Palestinian inmates it thinks could be freed as part of the latest arrangement. 250 Palestinian detainees who are completing lengthy prison terms are projected to be freed as part of the deal, out of approximately 290 currently held in Israeli detention. 22 minors will also be freed.

Global Feedback

There exist no intentions for British or European troops to be in Gaza after the ceasefire deal, the UK's foreign secretary the British official declared. "This is not our intention, there's no arrangements to do that," she said on Friday morning.

The official noted: "However there is an prompt initiative for the US to lead what is essentially like a monitoring process to ensure that this takes place on the location, to oversee the procedure with hostage release, and also ensuring that this primary phase is enacted, getting the humanitarian assistance in position, but they have also made very explicit that they expect the troops on the site to be supplied by neighbouring nations, and that is something that we do expect to occur."

The foreign secretary said she hopes the truce will be enacted "right away". According to the top diplomat, there are worldwide discussions on an "global security force" and the UK was continuing to participate in other ways, including looking at getting private funding into Gaza.

Public Feedback

Israeli citizens and Palestinians alike expressed joy after the truce agreement was revealed, while there was joy but also concern in Gaza amid concerns the latest arrangement could collapse.
